With thanks to Keira Greene who kindly accepted our invitation at short notice, we are delighted that she is able to show ‘Grain’ (2016) which has been newly re-graded and re-mastered for this occasion; alongside a selection of photographic prints that trace the link between ‘Grain’ with her current work, a long form film in-production called ‘The Hide’.

‘Grain’ (2016) is a portrait of Anna Halprin’s Mountain Home Studio built by her husband and environmental architect Lawrence Halprin (1916-2009). A voiceover from Daria Halprin, their daughter, and a dancer, actor, and teacher herself, relates an intimate family history. Daria gives tender impressions of her parents, detailing their individual perspectives on social experience, the natural environment, process, design, and movement. The images move to and from in scale between landscape to dance deck focussing on details of its construction, a structure intended to have minimal environmental impact, built in symbiosis with the mountain, with Anna and the Halprin family, and with a wider community of dancers and artists.

Greene is currently undertaking research in Brussels centred on dance and moving image, as a part of a practice-based PhD at Kingston School of Art.
